Safety gear only works when it fits, is worn correctly and is still in date. A quick check before you start the day is worth more than any specification sheet.
Head and eye protection
Replace a helmet after any significant impact, and check the date stamp, because most shells are only rated for three to five years. Safety glasses should carry an EN 166 mark and be worn under a face shield when cutting.
Footwear
Safety boots need a steel or composite toe cap, a penetration resistant midsole and a slip resistant outsole. Composite caps are lighter and do not conduct cold; steel caps are thinner and cheaper.
Gloves and hearing
Use cut resistant gloves for sheet metal and glass, and nitrile coated gloves for wet or oily work. Ear defenders are rated by SNR; 25 to 30 dB covers most site machinery, but only if they are worn properly for the whole task.
Dust and respiratory
Cutting concrete, block and MDF generates silica and fine dust. Use at least a P2 or P3 respirator with a good face seal, and pair it with extraction or water suppression wherever possible.
Our safety and PPE range covers helmets, boots, gloves, eyewear and respirators from Portwest, Milwaukee and Helly Hansen.
